A new sales and service center is currently being built for a high-tech laser factory near Stuttgart. The company complex will be shielded from a nearby motorway by its southern façade, while the northern side will be flanked by existing office buildings from the 1980's. Two floating horizontally and vertically staggered latch plates with offices are suspended over the center's lobby, auditorium and exhibition areas. The weight of the four to five-storey tall latch plates is beared by two reinforced
concrete tables, enabling a cantilever over the ground floor area.

Energy Concept
The energy and climatic conceptual design integrates among other things slab cooling, light and ventilation shafts, a special double façade and displacement ventilation. Temperature stability is achieved, in addition to slab cooling, by means of air intake through ducts along the building's front elevation. Air from the office latch plate area rises naturally through the open stairway/light shafts. The double façade facing the motorway allows for climatic and noise control in the office areas. From a distance it resembles an extra large billboard, advertising the firm.
